Strategy 4

Statement

Congestion Relief

Description

Reducing congestion along regional corridors or at spot locations such as interchanges and intersections enhances the efficiency and safety of all modes of transportation. Decreasing delays on the arterial system reduces reliance on the regional highway system for local trips and avoids premature and expensive highway widening.

The M/RTP incorporates Transportation Systems Management (TSM) and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) strategies to improve the efficiency and safety of the transportation system. These include controlling access to highways and arterials, improving traffic signals and timing, and continued implementation of driver information systems.
